Tony and I have been parents long enough to enjoy some of the harvest Paul was talking about in today's verse. Allow me to share two special "slices" from the fruit of parenthood that we have been privileged to enjoy. The first is a note Tony received from our oldest son, Anthony Jr. He wrote: "Dear Dad, I am writing this letter to say thank you even though sometimes I don't show it or act like it. I can't wait to come home and spend the week of my birthday with you and the rest of the family.
"Oh, and by the way, Happy Father's Day. I love you and I always will, even though I don't show it sometimes. I have always been proud when people say, 'You are Tony Evans's son'. I sometimes don't act like it, but I really feel good inside. I am so excited and proud to have your last and first name."
The second piece of parenting "fruit" I want to share with you today came in a card our oldest daughter, Chrystal, sent to me. After the card's beautiful poem about the extent of a mother's love, Chrystal added this postscript: "Know that I truly appreciate you being my mother, and believe that I think you have done an excellent job in raising all of us. As I realize how deeply and how much you love your children through my own maturing experiences, I love you more. Much love, Chrystal."
Needless to say, receiving notes and cards like these from your children do make all the times of weariness, sacrifice, and pain that parents endure for their children more than worthwhile.
Are you growing weary in the parenting struggle today? Try stepping back from the intensity of the moment and looking ahead to the harvest you will enjoy!
